The Life and Times
of Bob Moats

My Character Profile.

I have two friends who sent me those cute Profiles that you fill in and send on to 10 more people. I hate chain emails, so I took the two sent to me and put them together and made one big one that everyone could come here to read instead of clogging the internet with extra emails. Here are the two I filled out so you can get to know me a bit more, not that you really care.

NAME? Robert "Bob" Moats, AKA Magic Bob, Mandara the magician, and I've also answered to "Hey, stud".

PICTURE TAKEN IN LAS VEGAS ON RIGHT.

HOME? Any where I'm happy but presently in Fraser, Mich.

FAVORITE HOLIDAY? Christmas (and any other holiday I get paid time and a half to work.)

IF I WENT INTO REHAB IT WOULD BE FOR? my addiction to computers, but I'd never go to rehab for that because I don't have a problem :). Really I don't, I'm fine. Believe me....please....I don't have a problem!! Stop pestering me about my non-existent problem, I'm fine I say!!! Stop looking at me that way... I'm OK. Happy now!!

IF MY SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER WENT INTO REHAB IT WOULD BE FOR? it would help to have a spouse or SO, you got a cute sister?

MY CELL PHONE PLAN? Four total, 2 phone numbers through pre-paid T-Mobile, 1 through MagicJack and 1 through GrandCentral.

MY COMPUTER? Desktop: 2 Compaq Presarios; Laptops: ACER Aspire 5100 and Toshiba Portege 3020T

TIVO?  IPOD?  BLACKBERRY KNOCKOFF?   Palm Treo 680 smartphone is my favorite pocket toy, but I have a Palm Zire 72, Palm TX and Palm Treo 650. Don't even talk to me about IPods or IPhones or Blackberry, I have no love for them. My "TIVO" is a Sandisk SD card digital recorder. Unfortunately there isn't anything good on TV to record right now. PICTURE OF MY PALM TREO 680 ON RIGHT.

MOST OF MY 2008 INCOME CAME FROM? watching cars rust, damn I miss Las Vegas.

MOST OF MY 2008 OUTFLOW WENT TO? computer stuff, electronic toys and photo equipment.

SAVING UP FOR? Saving? What the hell is that?

STRANGEST HOBBY? "Backing" up my DVD collection or any DVD I rent, don't tell the MPAA

WHERE INVESTORS SHOULD PUT THEIR MONEY? In my magic show, it will be a big hit someday. After all I have worked on it for over 40 years.

FAVORITE NEW STYLE OF DANCE I INVENTED?  The "my feet think they are James Brown" moves. But I'm getting too old to even move my feet anymore.

EXPERIENCE IN PERFORMING ARTS? Besides being a magician? Yes, I worked in community theatre up by Traverse City, acting and directing. Had the lead in "Don't Drink the Water" and I directed "I do, I do", the musical, amongst other plays. When I moved back to the Detroit area, I started my own theatre company and we did "Same Time, Next Year", I played George and directed, and then did a play I wrote, "Happily Ever After", that was produced and run for 16 nights to sell out crowds in dinner theatre in Detroit.

HOW IN HELL DID I WIND UP...? BACK IN MICHIGAN!!!

WORST MONTH? The month I moved back to Michigan, OK that was in 2004, but it still was the worst as I look back.

BEST MONTH? When ever it is when I move back to Vegas.

IF I WERE FAMOUS AND HAD TO ENDORSE A PRODUCT? At my age, Depends (I mean the senior diapers)

IF I WERE RICH, THE COMPANY I WOULD YOU BUY AND IMMEDIATELY FIRE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS PURELY OUT OF SPITE? Micro$oft!

FAVORITE NEW CONDIMENT I INVENTED? one pound of Velveeta cheese, cup of mayo, and horseraddish to taste, makes a great Ritz cracker dip, also called Barsheeze in the mideast. OK I didn't invent it but I modified it to taste.

THE MOST DISTURBING TV COMMERCIAL IS? That poor female actress who had to admit she has genital herpes, whether she really did or not, she will be associated with it.

POLITICALLY SPEAKING? All politicians should be shot.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: GEORGE W BUSH IS...... the first in a long line of politicians who need to be shot. He tops my list of my most hated presidents and my list only has one name on it.

OK, I'M NOT REALLY WITH BUSH, BUT I HAVE FUN WITH IMAGE FX.

I SPENT MY BIRTHDAY ... wondering if anyone remembers me.

THE NAKED CELEBRITY I WOULD MOST LIKE TO WATCH BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN WITH IF I HAD TO WATCH BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN WITH A NAKED CELEBRITY? Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, (what, you wanted me to say some guy's name)

FAVORITE BOOKS OR AUTHORS? Anything by Robert B. Parker (SPENSER novels, Jesse Stone Novels and Sunny Randall novels), James Patterson (Alex Cross novels, Woman's Murder Club). I read about 3-4 e-books a month on my Palm that I buy from EReader.com.

THE BEST 2008 MOVIE I SAW? Golden Compass, can't wait for the two sequels.

THE WORST 2008 MOVIE I SAW? "Dirty Love" with Jenny McCarthy on DVD, I could only stomach the first 6 minutes of it before I shut it off.

BEST TALKING HEAD? Jon Stuart, yes, Steve Colbert, no.

THE CELEBRITY DEATH THAT AFFECTED ME THE MOST? Kermit's father, Jim Henson, period.

A NEW CITY I VISITED WAS? Sorry I'm not allowed out of the house.

A NEW CITY I WILL VISIT IN 2009? If I'm let out of the house it would be any and all cities on my way back to Vegas.

IN THE YEAR 2009? I will still be wanting to make my way back to Vegas, but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe 2010. I even still have my Nevada driver's license, altho expired. SEE RIGHT.

HAPPIEST VICARIOUS MOMENT? When I smuggle beer into my room. (I am living with my parents at the moment, 59 years old and living back home, I am such a loser! But there is a good reason I'm here.)

TWO WEBSITES I FOUND MOST INTERESTING? only two?? OK, magicbob.biz and bobmoats.com

THE EMAIL FORWARD I FOUND MOST AMUSING? the one that dragged a virus into my computer, that gave me laughs for days!

MY RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION? Sorry I don't believe in it.

FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONG? Bob Rivers' "Wreck the Malls" (Deck the Halls) and "Walking Round in Women's Underwear" (Winter Wonderland)

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOWS? Boston Legal, NCIS, CSI, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Men in Trees, Moonlight, New Amsterdam. The last three have been canceled, damn networks!

TV SHOWS YOU CAN'T STAND? Dr. Phil (the show and him). Any reality show, I hate survivor, apprentice, idol, the truth (how can people admit to immoral and illegal acts for cash??), scandal and tabloid shows (TMZ?),the bachelor franchise, most game shows rehashed, soap operas, any sports program that time shifts my favorite TV shows that I'm recording, give the bastards their own network! OK, tonight (June 4, 2008) I'm watching "Men In Trees", one of my favorite shows, see above, and what happens, they cut the last 15 minutes of it with the stinking Red Wings winning the cup, woo-woo-woo! I DON"T CARE!! Well you get it. I need fantasy and fiction to get through my reality.

WHAT DO YOU USUALLY HAVE FOR BREAKFAST? Don't eat breakfast.

WHAT FOOD DO YOU DISLIKE? Sauerkraut

FAVORITE EVENING SNACK? Chips and dips, Sharp chedder, block cheese and Ritz crackers or my passion, shrimp cocktail. I buy the one pound bag and divide it into three baggies, then when the mood strikes, I open one and dip them in my own concoction of cocktail sauce. I love to cook, but right now I have no kitchen of my own, otherwise I'd be a ton bigger than I am :).

Those are full albums. I have around 600 individual songs on there also, too many to mention, but you get the idea, I like classic rock, 60's, 70's 80's etc.. country I tolerate, and I'm not crazy about rap at all, so don't look for it here.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CD AT THE MOMENT? Celtic Woman, Live at Slane Castle, Ireland.

WHAT KIND OF CAR DO YOU DRIVE? 1989 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX, still in great shape! After almost 30 years of asking the Secretary of State every year if the license plate name "MAGIC 1" was available it always wasn't, but this year 2008 I got it. I had to wait 3 days to be sure the last person who had it didn't renew and they didn't, so it's on my car now, I'm happy. If you see a big Crown Vic with license plate "MAGIC 1", that's me. PICTURE OF CAR ON RIGHT.

DATED ANY CELEBRITIES? Yes, many, and to prove it see the picture below.

OK, Only one picture on this collage is real, the rest are me having fun with image manipulating. :)

MARRIED? No, I'm happy. OK, to be fair, I have been married twice, the first was a re-make of the Titanic, the second a re-make of Sybil. I've had numerous relationships with women who loved me and cleaned out my bank account so to speak, one girl was hell on two hoofs, the rest just had their own agendas and wanted me to change into something I'm not. After my second marriage and a couple of attempts to ride the horse again, I gave up. I remained single and started to really like it. I could spend any or all my pay on any "toy" I wanted, I didn't have to explain or justify where or when I wanted to go anywhere. I could put things in my place where I wanted them... well you get the idea. BUT, the big BUT, I do wish I had someone to be with on a not so restrictive footing, for dates, companionship, etc, without commitment. If you ever read the Spenser novels, he and Susan Silverman have the relationship I want. Loving, sexually good and happy together, but no paper to say they own each other or having to live together. I don't think I'm asking for too much, just a really great friend with great benefits. Well, I'm getting a nose bleed up here on my soap box, so off I go.

CHILDREN? One son, Justin, 28 this year. Smart kid, computer savvy, into music, creating it, had band, may get it back. Living in Port Huron. Lived with me in Las Vegas till we came back. PICTURE OF MY SON ON RIGHT My son and his significant other had a son, Xavier Alexander Moats, who was born at 11:36 on January 26, 2009, he was 6 pounds, 19.5 inches and healthy and his picture is next to his dad. Damn, I'm too young to be a grandfather!

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE OF CHOICE? BEER! mmmmmmmm, Beer. Milwaukee's Best Light is what I consume, only because I can't get Duff's. Homer has a hold on that. Now let's cover something here, I have enjoyed beer since Germany and in the past I could down a 12 pack a night, but now I'm lucky if I get past 8. Paul Newman used to slurp a case a day, I don't have that stamina. I am very firm in not drinking before 8pm, and I don't get drunk! I do get sleepy, but I've never been a bad drinker, period! I do not drive when drinking so don't ask me to come and get you. My son went through torture by being stopped after just a few, he's not a big drinker, and it freaked me how the system can mess up your life. I'm all for getting habitual drunk drivers off the roads, but there are innocent people out there who's lives can be screwed up by a simple pull over after a bachelor party. Nose bleed again, I'm done.

FAVORITE MOVIES? Other than "Golden Compass" this year, I loved "Sleepless in Seattle", "When Harry Met Sally", well, anything by Nora Efron and Rob Reiner. I'm very big on "Lord of the Rings"!! Enough said. Any movie by Ray Harryhausen, "Seventh Voyage of Sinbad", "Jason and the Argonauts", the best of special effects and animation. I have a letter from Harryhausen from back in high school when I wanted to get into special effects in movies. "King Kong", "Star Wars"! "Somewhere in Time", "Ghost". There are so many movies I love, I may add more here later. Romance, comedy, science fiction, fantasy and mystery. I just love movies.

ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO AIR OUT? First thing, I talk a lot about wanting to be back in Las Vegas, it has nothing to do with the gambling there, all during the year and 3 months I lived there I would every once in a while drop a quarter in a slot machine and usually I would get a couple extra back. I am a wuss about taking risks so it was not the gambling aspect that makes me want to go back.

Why then?

After I moved back to Michigan and had the chance to compare between the two places, I find that in Vegas I loved the sunshine; the heat; walking down the Strip and seeing happy people; being in a Disneyland for adults; the sounds of the casinos; the warmth of the night as I stood in a desert area looking at the Luxor light beaming up to the sky; driving up the Strip amazed at all the lights; walking around Freemont Street and watching the two block long video playing over head; having just about any kind of store available for anything you could ever want from all over the world; the diversity of people both living there and visiting; the place is always changing, something new everyday, something new to see; A dream fulfilled: I got to perform magic in Las Vegas, about 200+ shows... well, I could go on.

The place has an atmosphere that just gets to you. I once read in a book about Vegas, a quote, "Once you've lived in Las Vegas and got sand in your shoes, you may leave but you'll always come back", I guess I never got the sand out of my shoes.

I have nothing good to say about Michigan other than my family is here.

Second thing, I moved back from Vegas because I did get a bit homesick, plus the fact that my Dad had a stroke back in 2001 and wasn't getting any better according to my Mom, who would give me reports every Sunday when I would call. I didn't want to be 2000 miles away if something happened. I had a promise of a job when I got back but that was pulled out from under when I arrived. I was only going to stay at my parents house till I got a job and a place to stay. Well Michigan sucks for jobs and I had a lousy time finding a decent one. After a while my Mom liked the fact I was here because I would do errands for her or take her shopping, take out the trash, do this and that and help with my Dad who couldn't manage by himself. I did once mention about getting my own place and my Mom about had a coronary. Well, the rent is cheap but I don't have the privacy I would like, but they need me here now, so here I'll be for a while.

Las Vegas is on hold, but NOT cancelled. I'll be back.

I may add more questions to this page as the spirit moves me, thanks.
